One run was the difference at Fenway Park as the Baltimore Orioles defeated
the Boston Red Sox 3 to 2.
Dave McNally(2-0) gave a fine effort for Baltimore. He went 7 and 2/3 innings
and surrended up 8 hits and 4 walks. Boston had a chance to come back in the
9th but they came up short.
Pete Richert recorded his 1st save. Mike Nagy(1-1) was the loser. 'Just one
or two mistakes were all it took to beat us today' Dick Williams said. 'We
take these games one day at a time, but this one was hard to take.'

Mike Kilkenny was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game and Bill Freehan went deep and had 3 RBI at Municipal Stadium
where the Detroit Tigers beat the Cleveland Indians by the score of 6 to
2.
Detroit scored 3 runs in the decisive 2nd inning when they had 3 base hits.
Norm Cash led off and keyed the rally when he doubled. After an out was
recorded, Dick McAuliffe came up and he delivered a one-base hit. Freehan
then smacked a three-run homer. That early run support was enough for
Kilkenny(3-0) and Detroit. Detroit finished with 9 hits in the victory.
Luis Tiant(0-2) was the losing pitcher. He allowed 3 homeruns in 9 innings of
work.
