Jim Palmer pitched a 2 hitter at Fenway Park where the Baltimore Orioles beat
the Boston Red Sox 4 to 1.
Boston fell behind quickly as the Baltimore offense came through in the first
inning plating one baserunner on 3 hits. Baltimore finished with 10 hits in
the victory.
The win went to Palmer(1-1) who allowed 1 run in the game. Sonny Siebert(1-1)
was charged with the loss. 'All of my pitches were working today,' Palmer
said. 'I felt really good out there, and heck, I think I could have gone
longer.'

The Cleveland Indians and the Detroit Tigers locked up in an exciting one-run
game at Municipal Stadium. The final score was the Cleveland Indians 2, the
Detroit Tigers 1.
Cleveland came up with 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. Jose Cardenal
led off and keyed the rally when he drew a walk. Larry Brown followed next
and he lined a base-hit, and an error was also committed. After an out was
recorded, Tony Horton then doubled scoring two teammates. Neither team was
able to score until the 6th inning.
The victory was credited to Ron Law(1-0) who went 2 and 2/3 innings, allowing
no runs. Law got relief help from Horacio Pina who gained credit for his 2nd
save. Mickey Lolich(0-2) was given the loss.

The Minnesota Twins nipped the Oakland Athletics 7 to 6 at Oakland Coliseum in
a hard fought contest.
Minnesota had 3 runs cross the plate in the top of the 7th inning when they
came up with 3 base hits. The critical plate appearance was by Rich Reese
who silenced Oakland Coliseum as he rifled a three-run blast. Minnesota
managed 11 hits in their victory.
Tom Hall(1-0) went 3 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Hall got help from
Ron Perranoski who was credited with his 2nd save. Chuck Dobson(0-1) was the
loser. He allowed 3 homeruns in 6 and 1/3 innings of work.
