final score was 6 to 4.
Boston wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning scoring 2 runs
utilizing 3 base hits. Mike Andrews kicked off the action when he doubled.
Dalton Jones was next to the plate, but was promptly struck out. Luis Tiant
then let loose a wild pitch. Carl Yastrzemski was up next and he bombed a
two-run dinger. Boston out-hit Cleveland for the game, 13 hits to 7.
The win went to Mike Nagy(1-0) who allowed 1 run in 6 and 2/3 innings.
Tiant(0-1) was the losing pitcher. He was knocked around by Boston, allowing

12,708 fans were treated to a fine game at Tiger Stadium as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Detroit Tigers won by the
slimmest of margins, 4 to 3.
Detroit plated all the runs they needed in the 7th inning when they came up
with 4 runs on 4 hits. The big moment was provided by Don Wert who elicited
a roar from the hometown fans when he popped a two-run clout over the fence.
Detroit finished with just 6 hits in the victory.
Mike Kilkenny(2-0) allowed 3 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Kilkenny got relief help from Pat Dobson who gained credit for his
1st save. Lindy McDaniel(0-2) was the loser in relief.
'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll take the win' Kilkenny said.

the 6th inning at Oakland Coliseum as the Oakland Athletics beat the Kansas
City Royals by the count of 7 to 0.
Nash(1-0) escaped virtually unscathed against the Kansas City hitters. He was
stingy on the mound, allowing just 2 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. The
right-handed Nash lost his no-hit bid when Mike Fiore singled with two outs
in the 6th inning. Oakland had 10 hits for the night.

Bob Miller had a complete game and Harmon Killebrew went deep and had 3 RBI at
Anaheim Stadium where the Minnesota Twins beat the California Angels by the
score of 4 to 1.
Minnesota won the game with a run in the 8th inning. Graig Nettles ripped a
solo home run. Minnesota managed only 5 hits on the night.
Miller(1-0) got the victory, allowing 1 run for the game. Hoyt Wilhelm(0-1)
was tagged with the loss in relief. Minnesota knocked him around a bit, as
